The Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache (TestDaF) is a German language proficiency test specifically designed for international students who want to study at German universities. It is developed by the Society for Academic Study Preparation and Test Development (g.a.s.t.) and the Goethe-Institut.
TestDaF is accepted by all German universities. Results are reported as TDN levels: TDN 3 (lowest), TDN 4, and TDN 5 (highest). A score of TDN 4 in all four sections is the standard minimum for university admission.
The test is available in digital (computer-based) and paper formats at test centres in over 100 countries. TestDaF certification is valid indefinitely. The fee ranges from EUR 175 to EUR 250 depending on the test centre.

The test takes approximately 3 hours and 10 minutes. All sections are completed in one sitting.
