What Is telc Deutsch?

telc Deutsch is a series of German language exams developed by telc gGmbH, a subsidiary of the German Adult Education Association (DVV). Exams are available at CEFR levels A1 through C2, plus specialised variants like telc C1 Hochschule for university admission.

telc B1 is the most common level — it is required for German citizenship (Einbürgerung). telc C1 Hochschule is explicitly recognised for university admission across all German states, making it a popular alternative to TestDaF and the Goethe-Zertifikat.

Over 200,000 candidates take telc exams each year at 7,000+ test centres in 40+ countries. Certificates are valid indefinitely.
