What Is the TCF?

The Test de connaissance du français (TCF) is a standardised French proficiency test created by France Éducation International (FEI) and endorsed by the French Ministry of Education. Over 500,000 candidates take it annually worldwide.

The TCF comes in several variants: TCF tout public (general), TCF Canada, TCF IRN (French citizenship/residency), TCF DAP (university pre-admission), and TCF Québec. The general TCF is used for personal assessment, professional certification, and French university admission.

Results are aligned to CEFR levels (A1–C2) and valid for two years. The TCF is computer-based and available at approved FEI test centres worldwide.
