What Is CNaVT?

CNaVT (Certificaat Nederlands als Vreemde Taal) is the official Dutch language qualification administered by the Taalunie (Dutch Language Union) and KU Leuven. It is the primary exam for proving Dutch proficiency outside the Netherlands and Belgium.

Five profiles are offered: STRT (A2), PMT (B1), PPT (B2, professional), PAT (B2, academic), and PTHO (C1, higher education). PAT and PTHO are the profiles typically required for university admission.

Certificates never expire. The exam is held once per year (typically April/May) at 200+ locations worldwide, so planning well in advance is essential.
